The French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) called on the authorities on Friday to open an investigation into allegations that two individuals collected information on Muslims in France and transmitted it to the Israeli intelligence agency.
In a statement, the council referred to claims that an inquiry targeting Muslims in France was conducted at the request of the Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions (CRIF).
According to these allegations, political, administrative and security bodies in France provided information to two individuals, one of whom is Israeli, and this information was subsequently sent to the intelligence services of a foreign state.
The claims surfaced in a circulated video on social media in which the French writer Didier Long stated that since 2023 he has been conducting research on behalf of CRIF and various Jewish institutions in France, in cooperation with Dov Maimon, who works as an adviser to the Israeli government.
Long said he met with several figures, including officials from France’s domestic intelligence agency and the Directorate of Military Intelligence, and that the information he collected was submitted in reports to Israeli intelligence services.
According to the CFCM, Long and Maimon view Muslims in France as a “threat” to the Jewish community in the country.
The council urged the relevant authorities, foremost among them the Ministry of the Interior, to open a formal investigation into these allegations.
It also announced that it will file a complaint with the National Commission on Informatics and Liberties regarding the data that was gathered and used.
