US President Donald Trump has announced the cancellation of a planned attack on Iran after Tehran and other Middle Eastern countries requested a delay and agreed on the broad outlines of a potential deal.
Trump said the proposed agreement would include the immediate and complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, along with an end to what he described as the Iranian nuclear threat.
He claimed that he agreed to cancel the attack “for the future of the world and the survival of Iran”, citing the possibility of reaching an agreement quickly.
Trump also said the cancellation of the planned attack remains conditional on the ability to finalise a deal without delay. He stressed that the United States remains at full combat readiness and is prepared to act against Iran.
He added that Israel had joined the United States in committing to cancel the attack, provided that an agreement is reached quickly.
