Iranian authorities have officially denied reports circulating about the country’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, allegedly suffering a serious injury or leg amputation during the early days of the recent war.
According to statements carried by Iranian state media, Hossein Kermanpour, head of the Public Relations and Information Centre at Iran’s Health Ministry, said the injuries sustained by the “Leader of the Revolution” were minor.
Kermanpour explained that doctors at the time decided to carry out what he described as “simple stitches” in the foot area, requiring only “two or three stitches”.
He added that the injuries “were not severe enough to affect his appearance or physical condition” and “did not reach the level of causing disability or leg amputation as has been claimed”.
The remarks came in response to rumours that had spread across social media platforms and several media outlets in recent weeks, alleging that Mojtaba Khamenei had suffered critical injuries, possibly including the amputation of a leg or permanent physical damage during the war.
The Iranian official stressed that Khamenei’s condition remained stable throughout the incident and that the injury was limited to a minor wound to the foot that required basic medical treatment inside a hospital.
