The Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), released footage showing the targeting and destruction of an Israeli Merkava tank that had advanced into the Tel al-Hawa area in southern Gaza City. At the same time, other Palestinian resistance factions announced additional operations against Israeli military vehicles in the north-west of the city.
Footage of Direct Hits
The video revealed the Israeli tank being monitored before al-Qassam fighters struck it with a Yassin-105 anti-armour round, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air.
Earlier today, al-Qassam and other resistance groups confirmed that they carried out a series of co-ordinated attacks on Israeli military vehicles along multiple axes of advance in north-west Gaza City.
According to al-Qassam, fighters:
- Targeted a Merkava tank with a Yassin-105 rocket and an explosive martyrdom charge.
- Struck a D9 military bulldozer with a tandem-charge rocket near the Usama Mosque in al-Shati Camp, west of Gaza City.
Other Resistance Factions Join In
The Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement, stated that their fighters hit a Merkava tank with a tandem-charge projectile at the intersection of al-‘Uyun Street and the bridge in the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood, north-west Gaza City.
Working jointly with the Al-Nasser Salah al-Din Brigades, they also struck another tank with an anti-armour round at the same location.
In a separate statement, the Al-Quds Brigades reported that a unit destroyed an Israeli military vehicle with a highly explosive piercing charge near the intersection of al-Jalaa and al-‘Uyun Streets in the same area.
Timing of Operations
According to resistance communiqués, all these operations were carried out on 23 September, though the Israeli occupation has not disclosed its losses.
Ongoing Aggression on Gaza
The Israeli army has continued its assault on Gaza City and the northern part of the Strip since 11 August, under the codename “Gideon’s Chariots 2.” The campaign has included:
- The demolition of homes using booby-trapped robots.
- Intense artillery shelling.
- Random gunfire.
- Forced displacement of civilians.
- Ground incursions into neighbourhoods.
Backed by the United States, Israel has been committing an ongoing genocide in Gaza since 7 October 2023, resulting in at least:
- 65,502 martyrs,
- 167,376 wounded, the majority women and children,
- A famine that has already claimed 442 Palestinian lives, including 147 children.
