Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that it has identified new potential targets amid the ongoing war with the United States and the blockade imposed on Iran, raising the prospect of attacks on major internet cables passing beneath the Strait of Hormuz.
In statements issued on Monday, the Revolutionary Guards said seven major internet cables run beneath the strategic waterway, delivering a direct warning to their adversaries.
“Seven major internet cables pass beneath Hormuz, and the enemy must know that we have new targets,” the IRGC said.
The warning signals that Iran may be considering expanding the range of potential targets beyond those already involved in the confrontation, with critical communications infrastructure now being explicitly referenced.
The Revolutionary Guards did not provide further details about the cables or announce any specific attack.
US Embassies Warn of Possible Iranian Attacks Across the Middle East
The Iranian warning follows security advisories issued by US embassies in four Middle Eastern countries, cautioning that the regional security situation could deteriorate rapidly amid the possibility of attacks by Iran and its allies.
The warnings were issued on Sunday evening by US embassies in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Israel.
In their statements, the embassies urged American citizens to exercise “increased vigilance due to the complex security environment”.
They also warned of the possibility of flight cancellations, airspace closures and wider travel disruptions.
American citizens travelling to or from the region were advised to closely monitor airport operations and airline updates, while preparing alternative travel arrangements in advance in case of an emergency.
Washington Warns of Possible Escalation Involving Yemen’s Houthis
The US diplomatic missions also raised concerns about the possibility of further attacks involving Yemen’s Houthi movement.
In their warnings, the embassies stated that the “Iran-backed Houthis” had previously engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks targeting civilian airports and other critical infrastructure.
According to the US statements, those attacks resulted in civilian injuries and severe disruptions to travel.
The embassies cautioned that such hostilities “could escalate rapidly”, reinforcing their calls for American citizens across the region to remain alert to changing security conditions.
