Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel is prepared to launch a pre-emptive strike against Iran without American assistance, declaring that confronting Tehran remains his life’s mission and explicitly reaffirming his intention to bring down the Iranian government.
Speaking during an event outlining Israel’s security doctrine, Netanyahu described the Iranian threat as a defining priority of his political leadership.
“Confronting the Iranian threat is my life’s mission,” he said, while pledging to allocate 450 billion shekels over the next decade to strengthen and develop Israel’s military capabilities.
Israel Prepared to Act Without Washington’s Approval
Netanyahu made clear that although Israel consistently seeks Washington’s approval for major military action, it does not consider American consent a prerequisite for confronting Iran.
“Israel always seeks Washington’s approval, but does not make it a condition for taking action,” he said.
“Our objectives in confronting Iran do not depend on the approval of the United States.”
His remarks signalled that Israel intends to preserve its freedom to conduct military operations against Iran independently, even in the absence of direct American support.
Netanyahu further argued that Israel must prevent Tehran from launching the first strike, presenting pre-emptive military action as a central element of his government’s security strategy.
He also claimed that Israel had already completed “90 per cent of the mission against Iran”, but warned that Israeli forces would strike again if circumstances required further military action.
Netanyahu Explicitly Calls for Overthrowing Iran’s Government
Despite his claim that most of Israel’s objectives against Iran had already been achieved, Netanyahu insisted that the confrontation was far from over.
He argued that as long as Iran’s current political system remains in power, Tehran will continue attempting to rebuild its nuclear and military capabilities.
“As long as the Iranian regime remains in place, it will attempt to rebuild its nuclear and military capabilities,” he said.
Netanyahu went further by explicitly identifying the overthrow of the Iranian government as an objective of his policy, indicating that Israel’s strategy extends beyond targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and military capabilities.
“Our plan is extremely comprehensive and characterised by firm determination. It aims to overthrow the regime,” Netanyahu declared.
“This is my plan, these are the instructions I have issued to all the security agencies, and this is what will happen.”
His statements placed regime change at the centre of his declared strategy towards Iran, even as he maintained that Israel had already accomplished most of its military objectives against the country.
