Hunter Biden, the son of former US President Joe Biden, has said his father’s prostate cancer has spread beyond his bones to other parts of his body and is causing him severe pain.
In a filmed interview aired on Friday by the BBC’s Newsnight programme, Hunter Biden said: “The cancer has spread. It has moved into his bones and beyond… It is incredibly painful and debilitating in many ways.”
Reuters reported that a spokesperson for the 83-year-old former Democratic president declined to comment on Hunter Biden’s interview.
Biden revealed in May 2025, less than four months after leaving the White House, that he had been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer. At the time, he said the disease had spread to his bones.
A spokesperson for Biden said in October that he was undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment.
Biden was the oldest person to win the US presidency when he was elected in 2020.
His physical health and mental acuity came under scrutiny during his presidency from 2021 to 2025.
Biden’s presidential memoir is scheduled to be released on 17 November.
