Field indicators are rapidly converging toward a decisive moment between diplomacy and military escalation as the deadline set by US President Donald Trump approaches expiry. According to military analyst Colonel Nidal Abu Zaid, current movements on the ground suggest that the balance is tilting in favour of a military outcome.
Escalating US Military Preparations
Colonel Abu Zaid notes that the United States has already initiated a series of significant military deployments since Monday evening. These include repositioning B-2 stealth bombers to European airbases and transferring a full stockpile of advanced JASSM missiles. These missiles carry warheads weighing approximately 910 kilograms and have a strike range of up to 950 kilometres.
Such deployments point to the contours of a potential operation that is likely to be limited in scope but geographically expansive. The anticipated strategy would involve targeted airstrikes across Iranian territory without escalating into a full-scale war.
Further reinforcing this trajectory, Washington has imposed restrictions on satellite broadcasting companies regarding aerial imaging of Iran. This move is widely interpreted as an effort to control visual coverage of potential strikes and their aftermath.
Israeli Readiness Signals Anticipation of Retaliation
On the Israeli front, preparations indicate expectations of an Iranian response. Authorities have issued instructions for the use of tunnels and metro stations as shelters, reflecting concerns over the scale and intensity of potential retaliation.
Israeli broadcasting authorities report that Tel Aviv anticipates an escalation in US-led attacks following the deadline. Preparations are reportedly underway for large-scale joint strikes with the United States targeting critical Iranian infrastructure.
Iran’s Defensive Posture and Signals of Readiness
Iran, for its part, is demonstrating signs of military readiness by redeploying air defence systems around the capital, Tehran. This comes despite prior degradation of its defensive capabilities.
Colonel Abu Zaid emphasises that, within military doctrine, such redeployments signal preparation for imminent confrontation, indicating that Tehran is bracing for a near-term escalation.
Strategic Objectives Beyond Tactical Strikes
The broader US objective, according to the assessment, may extend beyond limited tactical operations. The intent could be to inflict widespread structural damage on Iran’s state infrastructure, enabling Trump to declare a strategic victory within a compressed timeframe of several weeks.
In his latest remarks, Trump described the deadline for Iran to reach an agreement as final, demanding full compliance. He warned that failure to do so would result in the destruction of critical infrastructure, including bridges and power stations, reiterating threats to push Iran into what he described as a “stone age” scenario.
Ongoing Conflict Dynamics
Since 28 February, Israel and the United States have been engaged in sustained military operations against Iran. These actions have resulted in hundreds of casualties, including senior figures such as Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani, as well as ministers of intelligence and defence and the commander of the Revolutionary Guard.
Iran has responded with missile and drone strikes directed at Israel, in addition to targeting what it describes as US military bases and interests across the region.
