Amid the war of annihilation that Israel is waging on the Gaza Strip, exclusive footage obtained by Al Jazeera Mubasher has revealed another war being waged in the shadows, targeting the resilience of Gaza’s population on psychological and social levels, through organised attempts to flood the Strip with drugs and hallucinogenic substances.
According to what Al Jazeera Mubasher’s camera documented, shipments of narcotic pills are entering the devastated Strip through multiple methods. These include commercial trucks passing through crossings subject to strict monitoring and inspection by the occupation army, in addition to the use of drones to drop quantities of narcotic substances over various areas of the Strip, where they end up in the hands of drug dealers and collaborators with the occupation who work to promote them among the population.
Aid Trucks
Al Jazeera Mubasher showcased many types of drugs that were brought into the Gaza Strip through aid trucks, including various kinds of pills, hashish, and other similar substances, as well as chemical materials that lead to hallucinations and death. The channel also presented the different and innovative smuggling methods adopted by the occupation to pass drugs into the Strip.
These developments come at a time when Palestinian security services and police in Gaza are subjected to direct and repeated Israeli targeting, which limits their ability to carry out their duties in pursuing those involved in such cases and protecting society from this scourge.
Shocking Details
Exclusive images and interviews conducted by Al Jazeera Mubasher with the Drug Control Administration in the Strip revealed shocking details related to deliberate attempts by the occupation to introduce these poisons.
The testimonies documented by Al Jazeera Mubasher show that commercial trucks supposedly carrying food or relief supplies undergo formal Israeli inspection procedures, yet narcotic substances are carefully passed through them. Officials in drug control described this as a suspicious and unprecedented matter, which, in their words, reveals a systematic policy aimed at striking the Palestinian social fabric from within.
Targeting Palestinian Society
In one of the warehouses reached by anti drug units, Al Jazeera Mubasher displayed quantities of narcotic pills that were seized, amid official confirmations that these confiscations represent only a small fraction of what the occupation is attempting to bring into the Strip, exploiting the conditions of war, siege, and the collapse of the economic and social structure.
Relevant authorities in Gaza warned that targeting Palestinian society with drugs is equal in danger to military targeting, as it seeks to weaken society, dismantle its ability to remain steadfast, and spread chaos and deviance among youth, amid a catastrophic humanitarian reality endured by more than two million Palestinians.
A Silent War
Despite limited capabilities, the Drug Control Administration affirmed that the law will pursue anyone proven to be involved in promoting or trafficking drugs, stressing that the battle against this phenomenon is a battle of awareness and steadfastness, no less important than confronting bombardment and siege.
