As Israel continues its war of genocide and destruction in the Gaza Strip, humanitarian aid from the United Arab Emirates has morphed into a dangerous political tool — offering the occupation a humanitarian cover for one of the most horrific crimes of our era: forced displacement.
For more than 22 months of ongoing war on Gaza, Israel has sought to impose new realities on the ground. Chief among them has been the destruction of Gaza City and the northern region, alongside efforts to force residents to flee southward.
Within this strategy, the Emirati role has emerged as a key driver — cloaked in the rhetoric of “relief” and “humanitarian support” — while in practice helping pave the way for Israel’s plan of mass expulsion.
Aid Aligned With the Occupation’s Blueprint
Despite the humanitarian façade, the UAE’s focus on projects exclusively in southern Gaza — while neglecting the devastated north — fully aligns with Israel’s vision of redrawing the demographic map.
The aid Abu Dhabi promotes — from relief ships departing Khalifa Port to water projects launched under “Operation Gallant Knight 3” — is concentrated in areas like Khan Younis and Al-Mawasi. These are precisely the zones Israel has designated as temporary “safe areas.”
Most recently, the ninth Emirati aid ship set sail carrying 7,000 tons of food and medical supplies to Egypt’s Al-Arish port, before being delivered into southern Gaza.
In parallel, a new water pipeline was inaugurated, linking Emirati desalination plants in Egypt to reservoirs in Khan Younis, with a daily capacity of two million gallons to serve hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians.
Though such projects meet basic living needs, they ultimately serve the occupation’s goal: cementing the presence of the displaced in the south rather than enabling their return to homes in the north.
Secret Agreements With Israel
The most revealing development came when diplomatic sources exposed a direct agreement between the UAE and the Israeli government to finance projects in southern Gaza through the Emirates Red Crescent.
While publicly branded as humanitarian improvements, the hidden objective is to prepare permanent settlement zones for Palestinians who have been forcibly displaced.
Just last month, Israel’s Kan public broadcaster confirmed that a senior delegation led by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer secretly visited Abu Dhabi and met with President Mohammed bin Zayed and top advisors.
According to the report, the visit was not about “neutral humanitarian aid” but about coordinating “relief” projects with geopolitical objectives — namely, restructuring Gaza’s population map.
“Humanitarian” Projects With Political Agendas
A closer look at the UAE’s so-called humanitarian initiatives reveals them as integrated political instruments:
- Field Hospital in Rafah: Marketed as medical support, but established under direct Israeli oversight, it functions as part of the plan to manage displaced population clusters under Israeli security control.
- Water Supply Project in Al-Mawasi: Providing 20 liters per person daily to nearly 600,000 people, but implemented under Israeli supervision, turning essential water access into a mechanism of control.
These projects are not innocent acts of compassion. They are tools for managing forced displacement, entrenching geographic division, and reshaping Gaza’s demographics.
Whitewashing Israel’s Image
At a deeper level, Israel and the UAE are using these projects to send dual political messages. Israel seeks to appear as though it is “allowing” aid, despite being the primary perpetrator of Gaza’s catastrophe. Meanwhile, the UAE leverages media coverage to present itself as a “humanitarian savior.”
Emirati state media highlights every truck and water station entering southern Gaza, ignoring the fact that these projects operate under Israeli security monitoring and form part of a larger displacement scheme.
The result: Abu Dhabi becomes a tool to polish Israel’s image and provide it with political and moral cover before the international community.
Al-Mawasi, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians displaced under fire now live, has become the epicenter of Israel’s plan. Emirati aid there — from water pipelines to food convoys — is transforming it into a “temporary stability hub” that keeps Palestinians in miserable conditions, yet firmly under occupation management.
Observers warn this could be the precursor to a practical partition of Gaza: a destroyed, uninhabitable north versus a “stabilized” south, laying the groundwork for mass deportation outside the Strip.
From Normalisation to Execution Partner
Since the Abraham Accords of 2020, Abu Dhabi has expanded ties with Israel across economic and security domains. But its current role in Gaza signals a dangerous shift: from a “normalisation partner” to an “executive partner” in Israel’s occupation agenda.
The Emirates Red Crescent, once assumed to be a humanitarian body, is now functioning as a political-security arm — actively participating in reshaping Gaza’s demographic reality.
Analysts stress that this emerging Israel–UAE partnership threatens not only Palestinians but also regional stability. It reflects a U.S.-backed alignment designed to reorder the Middle East at the expense of Palestinian rights and survival.
