The Israeli channel Kan has reported that “multiple sources indicate that Israel may be close to a breakthrough in the prisoner exchange deal within a matter of days,” following its submission of new maps to Hamas that reflect significant flexibility regarding the deployment of Israeli military forces in the Gaza Strip.
According to informed sources speaking to the channel, “a breakthrough could be achieved within a few days.”
Another source expected Hamas to respond positively to the new proposal, particularly in light of Israel’s apparent flexibility on key issues, such as redrawing the Philadelphi Corridor and adjusting troop deployment within Gaza.
A senior Israeli military official expressed cautious optimism, stating:
“I hope we reach an agreement this week. The Israeli military recommends that the political leadership pursue a deal, as there is strong interest from both sides.”
According to the military’s recommendation, Israeli forces would maintain their presence only in areas adjacent to Israeli settlements and kibbutzim surrounding the Gaza Strip.
The proposed agreement, developed in coordination with international mediators, outlines the release of 28 Israeli captives — including 10 alive and 18 deceased — over a 60-day ceasefire period.
Kan detailed the timeline of releases as follows:
- Day 1 (Sunday): 8 living captives
- Day 7: 5 bodies returned
- Day 30: 5 additional bodies handed over
- Day 50: 2 more captives released alive
- Day 60 (final day): 8 bodies handed over
Following the release of the eight living captives on the first day, Israeli occupation forces will begin withdrawing from parts of northern Gaza, and subsequently from the south. Humanitarian aid will enter the Gaza Strip immediately in adequate quantities under the supervision of the United Nations and the Red Crescent.
On the tenth day of the ceasefire, Hamas will be required to provide updated information regarding the status of the remaining captives still held in Gaza.
At the same time, Israel is expected to disclose information on more than 2,000 Palestinians from Gaza held under administrative detention by the occupation since the beginning of the war. Israel will also commit to the release of all Palestinian prisoners as part of the deal.
All Israeli military operations in Gaza are to be halted as soon as the agreement takes effect.
Air activity will be suspended for 10 to 12 hours daily, especially on the days designated for prisoner exchanges.
The arrival of U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, in Qatar is anticipated only once there is major progress in the negotiations.
