Israeli circles claimed on Wednesday that Lebanon’s Hezbollah had resumed fighting with Iran’s approval and coordination, as confrontation between Washington and Tehran continues to escalate.
Israeli newspaper Maariv reported that, for the first time in two months, sirens sounded in several northern settlements early Wednesday, including Kfar Yuval, Dafna and Ma’ayan Baruch, following what it said was the launch of a Hezbollah drone that entered the northern settlements.
According to the newspaper, the Israeli military assesses that the launch was carried out in coordination with Iran and with its approval.
It further claimed that the objective was to create severe tension along the northern border in an attempt to draw Tel Aviv into a broad response, thereby generating pressure that could ultimately force the Israeli military to halt its operations in the Ali Taher Heights ahead of what the newspaper described as a decisive moment.
Israeli Army Says Interceptors Were Launched
Maariv quoted an Israeli military spokesperson as saying: “Following an alert regarding the infiltration of hostile aircraft, interceptor missiles were launched at a suspicious aerial target that apparently crossed from Lebanese territory.”
“The results of the interception are currently being examined, and there were no casualties. Alerts regarding missile and projectile fire were activated following the interception attempts,” the spokesperson added.
The newspaper concluded by claiming that what it described as an “Iranian ambush against Israel” was enabling the Israeli military to operate more effectively in the Ali Taher Heights in southern Lebanon.
It said the military was expected to make a decision concerning what it called “refuge cities”, referring to tunnels that Iran allegedly built for Badr forces and which, according to Maariv, represent Hezbollah’s final defensive line in southern Lebanon.
The newspaper claimed that Hezbollah had been relying on Iranian intervention and direct military action against Israel to prevent the tunnels from falling.
