A woman standing behind US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office has triggered a wave of speculation and conspiracy theories across social media, with millions of users scrutinising her identity and movements.
The story began on Monday during an announcement by Trump, alongside Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., concerning changes to federal recommendations on childhood vaccinations.
Cameras captured the woman standing behind the president and nodding as he spoke. Within hours, users on X began circulating clips of the moment and offering increasingly unusual explanations for her behaviour.
‘Taser Device’ and Human Robot Theories Draw Millions of Views
Footage of the woman attracted millions of views, with one post from an account called “Russian Brief” receiving more than 11 million.
The account described the scene as “very suspicious”, claiming that the woman appeared to move her hand towards a concealed device near her stomach. Trump stood up at almost the same moment, prompting the account to suggest that she had activated some form of electrical device to wake him.
Blogger Tim Branigan repeated a similar theory, claiming the woman had a button positioned near her abdomen and pressed it whenever she noticed Trump falling asleep. He said some users had begun referring to her as “the taser”.
The speculation soon became even more unusual.
Writer Charlie Griffin questioned whether the woman was even human, saying her facial appearance seemed “artificial” and evoked what is commonly known as the “uncanny valley” effect.
Griffin suggested that she could be an “android robot” designed to behave like a human. He also floated the possibility that she was Kai Trump, the president’s granddaughter, in disguise as part of an effort to promote an anti-vaccine agenda.
Other users were less elaborate in their theories. An account belonging to Lucas Sanders simply asked: “Who is this woman nodding her head?”
Franklin Responds Directly
Faced with the flood of conspiracy theories and speculation about her body language, the woman eventually responded.
Using her official account on X, Jamie Lee Franklin addressed claims that she had a concealed electrical device near her stomach, writing sarcastically:
“I’m just a pregnant woman, you weirdos!”
In another post, Franklin ignored the rumours and instead focused on the purpose of the Oval Office event, expressing pride at being present and writing that “parents deserve the freedom to make informed decisions” concerning their children’s health.
Franklin did not explain why she had specifically been invited to the event, nor whether she had any role in drafting the executive order signed by Trump.
Who Is Jamie Franklin?
According to the US magazine Newsweek, the woman is Jamie Franklin, a conservative media entrepreneur and former Trump administration employee from Northern California.
Franklin is the founder and chief executive of The Conservateur, a media and lifestyle brand launched in 2020 that primarily targets young conservative Christian women.
A 2020 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Franklin has held several political and media positions.
She worked as a coalitions co-ordinator for Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign and later served as director of correspondence during his first term in office.
Franklin also worked as an associate editor at Fox News and continues to appear on the network as a recurring guest.
In 2025, she launched a podcast titled Faithful to America, which discusses politics and popular culture from a conservative perspective.
Franklin currently lives in Washington, DC, with her husband Drake and their daughter Vivian. She is also expecting another child, a fact she made clear in her response to those circulating theories about her appearance.
