A senior Iranian security official said Tehran has prepared a wide-ranging plan to respond to any potential attack on Iran’s infrastructure, following reports that the United States and Israel may be preparing imminent strikes.
Speaking to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, the official said the response would target vital infrastructure in Israel as well as US energy facilities across the region.
“We consider claims by the American media about possible US and Zionist entity attacks on Iranian infrastructure to be a form of madness, because we have prepared a broad response plan that includes the vital infrastructure of the Zionist entity and American energy infrastructure in the region, and we are ready to implement it,” the official said.
He added that “the Iranian armed forces, whether during the 40-day war or throughout its continuation in recent weeks, have demonstrated that they possess both the capability and the will to carry out such an action”.
The warning followed a CBS News report citing informed sources who said the United States and Israel were planning and preparing what could become one of the most severe bombing campaigns to date against Iran’s energy infrastructure.
CBS News said the attacks could be launched over the weekend, adding that Israel had been informed of the plan and was coordinating with the United States.
The network reported that President Donald Trump had not yet issued final orders for the proposed strikes, which were discussed during a meeting with members of his administration at Camp David.
It also said several White House aides responsible for political affairs had strongly opposed the plan.
