US military operations would become broader and more intense than the current attacks if President Donald Trump ordered a return to full-scale war against Iran, according to American officials cited by Fox News.
One US official told the network that the deployment of additional military aircraft to the Middle East was a preparatory measure while awaiting Trump’s final decision.
The official said Israel would likely participate if Trump decided to significantly expand the war against Iran.
Washington has reportedly avoided carrying out strikes near Tehran or against Iranian nuclear facilities since the seventh of this month. According to the official, that restraint could end if the United States resumed large-scale military operations.
Earlier, the US Central Command, CENTCOM, announced that its forces had begun a new wave of attacks on Iran.
CENTCOM said the strikes were intended to further degrade the military capabilities used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
