New information has surfaced regarding the suspect involved in the shooting incident that occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner attended by Donald Trump.
According to CNN, a source stated that presidential security officials opposed Trump returning to the event, despite his expressed desire to resume attendance following the incident.
Suspect Detained Near Security Perimeter
The New York Times reported, citing sources familiar with the investigation, that law enforcement officers intercepted the armed suspect near a secured perimeter before taking him into custody.
Meanwhile, Fox News identified the individual as Cole Thomas Allen, a 31 year old from Torrance, California, who is currently being held in detention.
Secret Service Confirms Safety of Protected Individuals
The United States Secret Service confirmed that the president, the First Lady, and all protected individuals were unharmed.
In an official statement, the agency announced that one person had been detained in connection with the shooting at the dinner event, adding that investigations remain ongoing and that those involved have not yet been fully identified as authorities continue to assess the situation.
