US Vice President JD Vance said he sees no problem with the possibility that policies pursued by President Donald Trump’s administration could ultimately lead to the end times.
Speaking during an interview with Christian podcaster Bryce Crawford, Vance said: “Do I think we are living in the end times? I don’t know. I am interested in end-times theories, but focusing on them too much is probably not spiritually good for me.”
Vance added that there were developments in the world that would leave him unsurprised if the Antichrist were already present.
“Things are happening in the world that make me feel like I would not be shocked if the Antichrist were walking among us,” he said, while explaining that he tries not to focus excessively on the subject.
‘We Do Not Know When God Will Come’
Vance said one idea strongly emphasised within Catholicism had been particularly useful to him: that people do not know when God will come, but are nevertheless commanded to work towards shaping the world in accordance with God’s will.
“One of the things that I think Catholics focus on a lot, and that I find very useful, is the idea that we do not know when God is coming, but we are commanded to try, as much as possible, to make the world look the way God wants it to look,” he said.
Vance added that while he would not be shocked if humanity were living through the end times, his priority was to carry out what he regarded as God’s work in the present.
“Even though I would not be shocked if we were living in the end times, what I try to focus on is doing as much of God’s work as possible right now. And if that leads to the end times, that’s fine. And if it leads to building a better world that flourishes and continues long after I am gone, that’s great too.”
