US President Donald Trump said that he does not believe Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has died.
Speaking to conservative radio host Glenn Beck during a live phone interview, Trump said, “I don’t think he’s dead.”
Trump added that Mojtaba had suffered extremely serious injuries to the left side of his body.
“Mojtaba was very badly wounded on the left side of his body, his arm and his leg, his entire body. He was very, very badly injured, but I don’t believe he passed away,” he said.
Trump also suggested that, if Khamenei had in fact died, Iranian officials could be attempting to maintain the appearance that he remains alive.
He said Iranian officials “continue to consult the Supreme Leader and seek his final blessing on important matters”, while describing Iranian negotiators as “not the most honest group”, suggesting that all possibilities remain open.
Asked about the prospects of winning the war, Trump said, “Our financial strength is enormous, and things are heading towards a very, very big victory.”
