US President Donald Trump has threatened to launch a new military strike against Iran “tonight”, indicating that the attack could be “major”.
Trump said he would give the Iranians a simple warning that he intends to hit them hard tonight. His remarks came during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.
Trump Signals Possible New US Strikes
Trump said the United States is likely to carry out fresh strikes against Iran within the coming hours. He added that US forces may seize Iran’s Kharg Island, the country’s largest oil export terminal.
He also did not rule out targeting electricity and water facilities if necessary, while insisting that he does not want matters to reach that stage.
US Claims It Destroyed 28 Iranian Boats
The US president added that American forces destroyed 28 Iranian boats overnight, noting that more boats could become targets in further operations.
Trump accused Tehran of violating the temporary agreement related to its nuclear programme.
Nuclear Agreement at the Centre of the Escalation
Trump stressed that the agreement with Iran requires the suspension of its nuclear programme. He warned that the United States would stop the programme itself if Tehran fails to uphold its commitments.
He also said Washington would not allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon “under any circumstances”, according to his remarks.
Trump Accuses Iran of Deception
The US president accused Iran of “deception” and of walking away from its obligations. He described the recent Iranian strikes as a clear violation of the agreement.
Trump also renewed his criticism of previous US administrations, saying the agreement reached by former President Barack Obama with Tehran was a “tragedy” and had provided Iran with American money.
Pentagon Says US Forces Are Ready
In the same context, US Defence Secretary Peter Hegseth said the armed forces are ready to carry out new strikes against Iran tonight if President Trump gives the order.
He added that the option of reimposing a naval blockade on Iran remains on the table.
