Iranian Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee spokesperson Ebrahim Rezaei has outlined four options Iran could pursue if war resumes with the United States and the Israeli occupation.
In a statement, Rezaei said any new US attack on Iran would be met with a broad response, including the possibility of changing Iran’s nuclear doctrine.
Iran Warns of a Comprehensive Surprise Attack
Rezaei said the second option would involve what he described as a comprehensive and unexpected Iranian attack in any future confrontation.
He added that Tehran has several options at its disposal that it did not use even during the 40-day war.
Withdrawal From the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty
Rezaei said another option under consideration is Iran’s withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, commonly known as the NPT.
According to the Iranian official, a proposal to withdraw from the treaty is ready for debate in Parliament.
He added that if Iran faces what he described as an “existential threat”, changing the country’s nuclear doctrine could also be placed on the agenda.
Closing Bab el-Mandeb and the Strait of Hormuz
The fourth option outlined by Rezaei is the closure of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait alongside the Strait of Hormuz. He said these options could be considered as part of Iran’s response to further military escalation.
Rezaei’s remarks come amid escalating threats between Tehran and Washington. US President Donald Trump has warned of possible new strikes against Iran, while Iranian authorities continue to signal that further attacks on the country could trigger broader retaliatory measures.
