The New York Times reported, citing US officials, that advisers to President Donald Trump have prepared plans to resume military strikes against Iran if he decides to break the current stalemate through further bombing operations.
According to Trump advisers quoted by the newspaper, the US president has not yet made a final decision regarding his next steps toward Iran.
Officials said the administration’s options include broader bombing campaigns targeting Iranian military sites and infrastructure. Trump could also consider deploying special forces to seize Khark Island or strike deeply buried nuclear materials.
The officials added that any attempt to take control of Khark Island would require ground troops to maintain control of the territory. They noted that the infrastructure listed among potential targets is directly connected to operations carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The newspaper also reported that senior US military officials privately acknowledge that achieving a decisive victory against Iran could prove extremely difficult.
