US President Donald Trump is expected to meet with his national security team to discuss the escalating situation with Iran, including the possibility of renewed military action, according to US officials cited by Axios.
The officials said Trump is increasingly leaning toward some form of military action against Iran as part of a broader strategy to intensify pressure and force concessions over Tehran’s nuclear programme.
However, the same officials indicated that Trump is unlikely to authorise any military operation against Iran before returning from his visit to China.
The meeting on Iran is expected to include Vice President JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Director of the CIA.
Officials also stated that Trump still prefers reaching an agreement to end the confrontation. However, Iran’s refusal to offer concessions has reportedly pushed the military option back onto the table.
