Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stated that the Kingdom reserves the right to take “military measures if it deems it necessary,” following Iranian attacks on Gulf states, adding: “I do not know when the war will stop.”
In remarks reported by Reuters on Thursday, bin Farhan said that the “limited trust that remained in Iran has been completely shattered,” stressing that “when the time comes, the Kingdom’s leadership will make the necessary decision.”
He indicated that two refineries in the capital, Riyadh, were targeted in attacks, affirming that “Iran’s pressure will rebound against it politically and morally,” and that the Kingdom “certainly reserves the right to take military measures if necessary.”
The minister accused Iran of “not dealing with its neighbours in a spirit of brotherhood, but rather with a hostile outlook,” noting that “any threat to freedom of navigation requires collective action.”
He added that Iran “has not clearly understood the message and does not wish to understand it,” calling on it to immediately halt its support for its proxies in the region and to work toward safeguarding maritime navigation.
He stressed that Iran must “review its miscalculations,” considering that the attack “will not achieve any gains,” adding that Tehran “had pre planned these attacks.”
Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait announced early Wednesday that they had been subjected to missile and drone attacks from Iran, as the war between the occupation and the United States on one side and Iran on the other entered its 19th day.
Iran’s attacks come as what it considers a response to ongoing American and occupation aggression against it since February 28.
The Ministry of Defence announced in two recent statements the “interception and destruction” of a drone in the Riyadh region and another in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom.
The ministry had previously announced the “interception and destruction of nine drones” in the Eastern Province, and the “downing of a hostile drone” as it attempted to approach the Diplomatic Quarter in the capital, Riyadh.
It also announced the “interception and destruction” of a ballistic missile launched toward Al Kharj Governorate in central Saudi Arabia, with debris from the interception falling near Prince Sultan Air Base “without causing damage.”
