The Hebrew Broadcasting Corporation reported that official assessments prevailing in Israel suggest that US President Donald Trump may launch a military attack on Iran to force it into negotiations.
The broadcaster stated that in Israel, it is estimated that Trump will attack Iran to pressure it into talks. It added that, according to data from the Israeli security establishment, protests in Iran have resulted in the killing of at least 4,000 civilians.
Earlier on Tuesday, the broadcaster considered that the United States is closer than ever to attacking Iran.
For its part, the Hebrew newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the Israeli ministerial council for political and security affairs, known as the cabinet, will be briefed on Tuesday evening on plans for a potential Israeli attack on Iran.
In a message to Iranian protesters, Trump said via the Truth Social platform that help is on the way to them.
He added, addressing what he described as Iranian patriots, that they should continue protesting and take control of their institutions. He also announced the cancellation of all meetings with Iranian officials until what he described as the killing of protesters stops.
Several countries, including China and Russia, have expressed their rejection of any American plans to intervene militarily in Iran’s internal affairs.
Pressure from the United States and its ally Israel on Tehran has escalated since popular protests erupted in Iran on 28 December last year, driven by deteriorating economic and living conditions.
Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programmes are considered the most prominent files likely to be subject to negotiations between Tehran and Washington. Israel and the United States accuse Iran of seeking to produce nuclear weapons, while Iran says its programme is designed for peaceful purposes, including electricity generation.
For some time, Tel Aviv has been claiming that Tehran is rebuilding its ballistic missile capabilities that were damaged in the most recent war. Israel has also sought a green light from the United States to attack Iran again.
In June last year, Israel, with American support, launched a war on Iran that lasted 12 days. Tehran responded, before the United States announced a ceasefire.
