A senior Iranian official has claimed that armed groups trained in Israel and the United Arab Emirates have entered Iranian territory, warning that some members could be positioning themselves inside residential neighbourhoods to carry out assassinations.
Ali Agha Mohammadi, a member of Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council, made the claim on Wednesday during an appearance on Iranian television.
He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the relevant authorities.
Agha Mohammadi also said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the UAE “should be taken seriously”, arguing that “Israel wants to fight Iran from the UAE”.
The Iranian official did not provide further details about the identity of the groups he referred to or the number of their members. He also presented no public evidence demonstrating that the groups had entered Iran.
Tehran Links Netanyahu Visit to Regional Security Concerns
Agha Mohammadi’s remarks came hours after Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned Netanyahu’s visit to the UAE, which took place on Sunday, and warned of what it described as the “extremely dangerous consequences of Israel’s presence” in the region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, the ministry said the region was passing through “one of the most fragile and sensitive periods in its history”, citing what it described as Israeli military attacks against Iran and the escalation of occupation in the Palestinian territories and Lebanon.
The ministry described Netanyahu as a “killer of children and an advocate of war”, saying his presence in the UAE was “extremely dangerous and a cause for alarm”.
It also accused Israel of threatening regional security and stability.
The ministry said what it described as Israel’s “established hostility and antagonism” towards Iran and other countries in the region, alongside repeated Israeli threats against Tehran, required regional governments to remain cautious about the consequences of an Israeli presence.
Iran Warns Regional States Against Facilitating Israeli Presence
Iran’s Foreign Ministry reiterated that regional security is a “collective and indivisible issue”, warning that any move that facilitates the entry of actors it considers destabilising could deepen tensions and insecurity.
It called on regional governments to refrain from providing what it described as “the conditions for Israel’s destructive presence” and not to allow their territory to be used “as a launching point for destabilising actions” against other states.
The warnings come amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv and the continuing fallout from the wider regional war.
Iran remains particularly sensitive to security or military cooperation between Israel and neighbouring states.
UAE Confirms Netanyahu Visit
On Monday, the UAE’s official WAM news agency confirmed that President Mohammed bin Zayed had received Netanyahu on Sunday.
The confirmation came a day after Israeli media revealed the visit, which had initially been described as secret.
The meeting focused on relations between the UAE and Israel, while the visit triggered sharp criticism from Iran amid the continuing military tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv.
