Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Thursday that it had targeted Jordan’s Azraq Air Base, claiming the facility houses American fighter aircraft and key military installations, as part of its response to recent US strikes inside Iran.
In a statement, the IRGC said its forces launched 12 ballistic missiles towards what it described as the location of American F-35, F-15 and F-16 fighter jets, as well as military facilities and the command centre at Azraq Air Base.
According to the statement, the attack was carried out in response to what it described as missile strikes by the US military against sites inside Iran.
The IRGC said those American attacks targeted several locations, including a production facility and the vicinity of a Revolutionary Guard base in the Pishva area, in addition to other sites near Karaj and Nazarabad.
Claim of Significant Damage
The statement claimed that the missile strike resulted in the destruction of military facilities and a large number of American fighter aircraft stationed at the base.
The IRGC further warned that its military operations would continue for as long as what it described as enemy attacks persist, threatening additional strikes against American targets across the region.
No Official Response Yet
At the time of reporting, neither the United States nor Jordan had issued an official statement regarding the IRGC’s claims of targeting Azraq Air Base or causing damage at the facility.
Strategic Military Site
Azraq Air Base is considered one of Jordan’s most significant military installations.
The facility has been used by US forces and coalition partners in several military operations and air support missions across the region over recent years.
