Sister asked this question: “I am a 36-year-old lady from India and I got married 6 years ago. Now my husband doesn’t want this relationship anymore. He and his family have thrown me out of their home. I didn’t bring dowry from my parents’ home. It was a complete arranged marriage. Now they don’t want me and my husband is not giving me divorce also, as he will have to pay all that we have given during the time of marriage and compensation for destroying my life. I have filed a case in court and on suggestion of my lawyer I have added some more points in allegations to make my case strong. Is it OK in this situation to touch the Quran before saying including those which the lawyer has added? They have just destroyed my life and cheated me on Allah’s name. They have used me and exploited me from wherever they got possible.“
In this fatwa:
1- You have the right to get your rights through the legal channels available to you.
2- However, at no time are you allowed to make false allegations or claims against your husband.
3- If you do that, then you are equally guilty before Allah, in which case, there is no difference between you and your husband.
I empathise with you and pray to Allah to grant you relief and bless you with success in both worlds.

Your lawyer is acting immorally by making you do it. As a Muslim woman, you must never make allegations that you know are false. If you do that, then you are equally guilty before Allah, in which case, there is no difference between you and your husband.
You may do well to remember the words of the Prophet (peace be upon him): “Be truthful always; truthfulness leads to virtue and virtue leads to paradise. Shun lying (in all forms), for lying leads to sins, and sins lead the way to hellfire. A person continues to lie until his or her name is entered as a liar in the Register of Allah.” (Muslim)
