Israeli media outlets report that the security establishment in Tel Aviv expects a renewed military confrontation with Iran in the near term, despite a recently announced ceasefire between Washington and Tehran last week.
According to these assessments, the Chief of Staff has issued directives placing Israeli forces on full operational alert in anticipation of a potential breakdown in the truce and a rapid escalation back into open conflict.
Military Readiness for Escalation Scenarios
Channel 13 reported that the Israeli military is actively preparing for multiple escalation scenarios. These include the possibility of sustained missile barrages targeting Israeli territory or a sudden, large-scale Iranian attack.
The preparations reflect internal projections that the ceasefire remains fragile and could collapse without warning.
Netanyahu Signals Support for US Pressure Strategy
Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed his support for the maritime blockade imposed by the United States on Iran, while also acknowledging the likelihood that the ceasefire could unravel.
During the opening of a cabinet session on Monday, Netanyahu endorsed what he described as the firm stance taken by Donald Trump in enforcing a naval blockade targeting Iranian activity.
Channel 12 cited Netanyahu as stating that the ceasefire with Iran could shift “within a very short time frame,” particularly following the stalled negotiations in Islamabad.
Strategic Preparations Around Hormuz Escalation
The newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Israeli authorities are preparing for renewed hostilities as the US blockade around the Strait of Hormuz begins to take effect.
Officials anticipate scenarios involving sudden Iranian retaliation, especially as maritime restrictions intensify.
Ceasefire Background and Rapid Deterioration Risk
The United States and Iran had announced a two-week ceasefire on 8 April, brokered through Pakistani mediation, with the intention of advancing towards a broader agreement.
However, subsequent developments have escalated tensions. Washington moved to impose a blockade targeting vessels travelling to and from Iranian ports, while US military statements clarified that operations are focused on Iranian ports without formally restricting navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, Iran has imposed restrictions on vessel movement through the strait, particularly affecting ships linked to states involved in operations against it.
Unprecedented Coordination Between Washington and Tel Aviv
Netanyahu revealed that he held direct talks with JD Vance, during which he was briefed on the negotiation process and its breakdown. He described the level of coordination between Tel Aviv and Washington as “unprecedented,” signalling deep strategic alignment amid rising tensions.
