Uber Technologies has entered into a partnership with Flytrex, an Israeli drone company, to launch a drone-based delivery service — marking Uber’s first investment in aerial delivery.
The agreement, announced this week, will see Uber Eats pilot the service at select test locations in the United States by the end of 2025.
Sarfraz Maredia, Head of Autonomous Mobility and Delivery at Uber, stated that the partnership would enable the company to transport food and essential goods across American cities.
Expanding Uber’s Delivery Network
The deal represents a major expansion of Uber’s delivery strategy, moving from footpath delivery robots to airborne drones. According to Uber, this marks a new phase in its ambition to dominate urban logistics by incorporating multiple technologies into its supply chain.
Flytrex: An Occupation-Based Company
Flytrex was founded in Tel Aviv, in the Israeli occupation state, in 2013, and began international operations in 2017. The company claims to hold the world’s largest drone flight database, collecting information from more than 15,000 of its devices across 90 countries.
Flytrex also boasts technology that allows drones to bypass natural and man-made obstacles such as buildings, enabling efficient urban cargo delivery.
