French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a historic decision: France’s official recognition of the State of Palestine.
Following the signing of the recognition decree, Macron stated that he issued the decision “in fulfillment of our historic commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.”
He added, “I will officially announce the decision to recognise the State of Palestine before the United Nations General Assembly this coming September.”
Israeli Reaction: Denouncement and Threats of Annexation
In the first response from the Israeli occupation, Deputy Prime Minister Yariv Levin condemned the French president’s decision, describing it as a “disgrace and support for terrorism,” in his words.
Levin continued, “It is time to impose sovereignty over the West Bank as a just historic response to the French decision.”
