Sabr/patience is restraining one’s self and subjugating it to endure displeasures (adversity) or to depart pleasures (prosperity).
An example of enduring the displeasure of washing one’s body with very cold water is for one to make wudu’ perfectly with very cold water for reward. The example of departing the pleasure of sleeping when Fajr enters is for one to get up departing this pleasure to perform the obligatory prayer.
