He was the prince Hussam a-Deen bin Sharaf-a-deen ^eesa “al-JarraHiyy” (which translates in Arabic to the surgeon). One of the princes under the hands of the great leader SalaHudeen al-Ayyubi, RaHimahu-llaah, and his personal doctor and for that he was named “Al-JarraHiyy” as in the one who performs surgeries. He was also a Sufi that followed the Qadirriyy tareeqah.
After the victory of the Muslims over the crusaders in the year 1187 and setting al-Aqsa free towards the end of that year, he settled in Al-Aqsa and organized a Sufi corner specific for making thikr and it was known as Al-JirraHiyya corner (It is known today as the corner of Shaykh Al-JarraH).
After his death in 1202, RaHimahu-llaah, he was buried in that area. In 1895, a Masjid was built next to his Maqam, it is know today as Masjid Al-Shaykh Al-JarraH.
