Settlers raise Israeli flags for the first time in Al-Aqsa Mosque

Israeli settlers raised the Israeli flag at Al-Aqsa Mosque on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, in a new type of provocation coinciding with the anniversary of the occupation of Palestine.

Videos showed settlers hanging the Israeli flag and raising it during their provocative rounds. Other videos showed a settler raising the Israeli flag near the Dome of the Rock Mosque, while another wore a hat bearing the flag of the occupation.

The Palestinian news agency “WAFA” explained that the settlers stormed the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque under the protection of the occupation police, from the Moroccan Gate side. The settlers performed Talmudic rituals and conducted provocative tours amidst strict military measures.

The raising of the Israeli flag by settlers during their incursion into the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque was based on a call from the extreme right-wing organization “Bayadino,” which urged its supporters to raise it as part of the so-called “Independence Day” celebrations. This comes as part of the organization’s campaign to impose Israeli sovereignty over the mosque under the banner of “raising the Israeli flag above the sanctuary on Independence Day.”
