The Izz al-Din al Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), on Sunday released footage of its fighters storming a newly established Israeli military site southeast of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
According to the Hamas Brigades, the raid took place on 20 August, as part of the ongoing “David’s Stones” operations.
Precision Planning and Execution
The video shows Al Qassam fighters preparing to storm the site, before launching their assault with anti-armour shells and live fire.
A field commander explained that the fighters had monitored the location despite complete Israeli air surveillance. They gathered detailed intelligence 24 hours before the attack, studying the enemy’s behaviour during its ground manoeuvres inside Gaza.
The commander confirmed that the fighters seized full control of the area, inflicting casualties among the Israeli occupation forces.
The footage reveals Al Qassam fighters emerging from a tunnel shaft, advancing on the site, and engaging in close-range combat with automatic weapons and anti-armour projectiles before safely withdrawing. Flames and thick black smoke engulfed the site during the attack, accompanied by the fighters’ takbir (chants of “Allahu Akbar”).
“Eyes Always Watching”
The field commander stressed that Qassam fighters remain ever watchful, awaiting the right moment to strike at the occupation wherever its forces are present. He affirmed that the will to fight remains unshaken, despite Israel’s attempts to evacuate Palestinian civilians from residential areas.
During a pre-battle planning session, one fighter referenced the martyrdom of senior Qassam commander Mohammad al-Sinwar, affirming that the Brigades serve as a military school whose fighters are guided by absolute certainty in Allah’s promise of victory.
Details of the Khan Younis Operation
On 20 August, the Qassam Brigades officially announced that a platoon-sized force of infantry had raided a newly built Israeli site southeast of Khan Younis.
According to the statement, fighters targeted the site and several Merkava-4 tanks with Shawaz charges, martyrdom devices, and Yassin-105 anti-armour rockets.
They also struck multiple houses fortified by Israeli soldiers, pounding them with six rounds of anti-fortification shells and machine-gun fire.
Qassam fighters then stormed the houses, killing several occupation soldiers at point-blank range with light weapons and grenades. A sniper successfully neutralised the commander of a Merkava-4 tank with a fatal shot.
The fighters further shelled surrounding sites with mortar fire to cut off Israeli reinforcements, before bombarding the raid location itself with mortars to secure their withdrawal.
The Brigades confirmed that as Israeli rescue forces arrived, a martyrdom fighter detonated himself among them, killing and wounding more soldiers. The attack lasted several hours, during which Qassam fighters observed Israeli helicopters landing to evacuate the casualties.
Echoes of October 7
Roughly 24 hours after the Khan Younis raid, the Israeli army released an official investigation acknowledging that the assault bore a striking resemblance to the 7 October 2023 Al-Aqsa Flood operation.
The occupation also circulated a video claiming to show its forces confronting the attack and “eliminating members of the group,” though such claims are widely dismissed as part of its propaganda.
