Dear brothers in Islam,
Among the obligations of the heart is to rely on Allah. Reliance on Allah means to believe firmly that Allah is the One Who creates both the benefit and the harm; no one can benefit you with anything except that which Allah willed for you, and no one can inflict any harm on you if Allah did not will for that matter to happen to you. As a result of this belief, one relies on Allah to get one’s own sustenance and any other benefit and to be safe from illnesses, to be safe from harm, and to be relieved from different calamities. Consequently, it is sinful to leave relying on Allah and instead one would go to the sorcerers and the fortune tellers in order to seek benefit or to alleviate harm or even just to know about the future. Whoever goes to a soothsayer or a fortune teller to ask him about something believing that such a person knows the whole unforeseen (al-ghayb) commits blasphemy. Do not be tempted and deceived by some imposters who might tell some truthful information about your life because such people would have connection with some devils who might provide them with some information which they know about you and which they might have heard from the angels.
A fortune-teller (kahin) is a person who claims the ability to foresight the future, such as the ones who befriend some of the Jinn and rely on their sayings in which they spread and portray as the future. On the other hand, a ^arraf is a person who claims the ability to ascertain past events, such as knowing about stolen goods.
Know that the one who goes to either a kahin or a ^arraf, believing that they know about the unforeseen, has belied Allah and His Messenger, for none knows about the unforeseen except Allah, the Exalted. Surat An-Naml, Ayah 65 means: [Say, none in the heavens and earth knows the unforeseen except Allah]. The one who thinks that what they have been told has the possibility of either occurring or not occurring, does not commit blasphemy, however, he is sinful for merely asking them.
Know that some of the Jinn would listen to what the Angels who are in charge of rain say. Those Jinn would ascend to a place close-by, where the Angels speak amongst each other about some of the events that will unfold on earth this year, such as, who is going to die or who will be born, who will rise as leader, who will no longer lead, and other similar matters which Allah, the Exalted, Has brought to their knowledge. Allah may inform His angels, messengers, and righteous Muslims about a portion of the unforeseen, but not about all the unforeseen. Those Jinn then descend back to earth and deliver what they have heard to those who they have befriended amongst humans.
So be warned against those people who claim that they have the ability to call the souls, when in fact they deal with the Jinn. The souls of the pious believers do not like to come back to this world even if they were to be given this whole world and what is in it. Moreover, the souls of the blasphemers are under the control of the angels of torture, and the angels will not allow these evil people to take the souls of the blasphemers from them.
Hence, those who attend such places are not the souls of people, rather, they are the Jinn who knew about this particular person’s situation and lived with him. It could be either his qarin, i.e. the Jinn who accompanied this person for the entire of his life or another one of the Jinn who knows about one’s situation, however, they lie and say, “I am the soul of such and such.” We ask Allah, the Exalted, to protect us from such an evil.
The majority of those who claim that they can contact the souls are in fact dealing with the Jinn. But they do not tell the people that they are dealing with the Jinn as then the people will not believe them. Deceivingly, they claim that they are contacting the souls so that some people would go to them. At the beginning of some cases, as the Jinn is claiming to be the soul, the Jinn will show signs as if it is following the Rules of the Religion, then, will start with matters which are against the Rules of the Religion.
In the end, we ask Allah to protect us from those imposters and their malicious acts and make us among those who rely on Allah in all matters Ameen.
