The Jordanian Dar Al Iftaa responded to this question, where it said: “Through researching, considering and questioning, it became clear to us that examining the corona (PCR) does not invalidate the fast of the Muslim person. Because the dry screening (cotton) device (or stick) that is inserted through the nose does not reach the throat, and what used to be that is not regarded as invalidating the fast.
She continued, saying: “The masters of the Malikiyyah stipulated that it should reach the al-Jawf (interior part), and the masters of Hanafiyyah stipulated that the thing entering should be stable in al-Jawf (interior part), and that nothing of it remains outside, and both conditions are not met in the examination process. And because fasting is not invalidated by suspicion, so whoever does the Corona virus test (PCR) can complete his fast, and he does not have to do anything.”.
The rules of religion, at al-Malikiyyah, state that one of the things that invalidate the fast in this regard is that the person puts something in his nose and finds its taste after that, so when the corona examination is a cotton that goes into the nose and exits it, without entering what the person finds tasting in his throat, this is not considered to invalidate the fast.
The official Fatwa Center in the UAE also confirmed that examining the Corona virus by taking a “swab” from the nose does not invalidate the fast, and everyone can perform the examination during the blessed month of Ramadan. The same was confirmed by the Lebanese and Egyptian Dar Al Iftaa.
It is reported that the efforts made by countries to confront the spread of the new Corona virus have directly affected the practice of worship in general, after suspending mosques, preventing the performance of group prayers (Jamaah) and practicing social distancing.
