US President Donald Trump’s administration came close to approving a direct military attack on Iranian territory on at least one occasion recently, according to informed sources cited by Israeli news channel i24NEWS.
The reported deliberations come as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to escalate, with the United States maintaining military preparations for a possible resumption of operations against Iran.
The developments have raised further questions about whether the Trump administration will pursue military action or diplomatic efforts in its approach to Tehran.
Washington Reportedly Considering Large-Scale Strikes on Iran’s Kharg Island
Separately, senior American sources cited by the Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom on Monday said the Trump administration was considering large-scale strikes against Iran’s strategically important Kharg Island, which accounts for approximately 90 per cent of the country’s oil exports.
According to the sources, the proposed strikes are intended to pressure Tehran into making concessions concerning its nuclear programme and the Strait of Hormuz ahead of the US midterm elections scheduled for 3 November.
The reported military options place Iran’s critical oil export infrastructure at the centre of Washington’s deliberations, as the administration weighs further military action against continued diplomatic engagement.
