Israeli security assessments suggest that neither Israel nor the United States is likely to launch a military attack against Iran before their respective elections, as political leaders in Washington and Tel Aviv weigh the potential consequences of another major confrontation.
According to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump may seek to avoid the risks associated with a large-scale military operation before the elections, particularly given the potential political repercussions of renewed hostilities.
However, the assessment does not rule out the possibility of military escalation, with Israeli officials expressing concerns that developments beyond Washington’s or Tel Aviv’s immediate control could trigger a wider regional confrontation.
Fears of Iranian or Houthi Actions Triggering a Wider Conflict
The newspaper reported that Israeli security officials remain concerned about the possibility of an Iranian military move, an attack by Yemen’s Houthis or an operation carried out by another regional ally of Tehran.
Any such development could potentially draw the region into a broader confrontation, even if neither Israel nor the United States initially intended to initiate another major military campaign.
The possibility of escalation therefore remains despite assessments suggesting that Netanyahu and Trump would prefer to avoid launching a large-scale attack before the elections.
Israeli Officials Warn of Military Miscalculation
Israeli assessments have also highlighted the risk of military miscalculation, particularly in an environment of heightened alert and mutual suspicion.
According to Yedioth Ahronoth, one of the most dangerous scenarios involves either side interpreting the other’s military preparations as evidence of an imminent attack.
Such an assessment could prompt a pre-emptive strike intended to secure the advantage of attacking first, potentially triggering a confrontation that neither side had originally planned.
This risk of misinterpretation remains a central concern as military forces across the region maintain heightened readiness.
Israeli Army Chief Warns of Escalation Across Multiple Fronts
The warnings follow an earlier security assessment conducted by Israeli military Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir at the army’s Central Command.
During the assessment, Zamir told military commanders that the growing number of warnings across several fronts, combined with the sensitivity of the current period, had increased the likelihood of escalation.
His remarks reflect concerns within the Israeli military establishment that the accumulation of security threats could create conditions in which an isolated incident or military miscalculation leads to a wider confrontation.
While Israeli assessments suggest that Netanyahu and Trump may be reluctant to initiate another major offensive against Iran before the elections, the possibility of an unplanned escalation remains a serious concern for military planners.
