Iran is preparing for another potential war with the United States, strengthening its military infrastructure and warning that any renewed American attack could trigger a broader confrontation across the Middle East, including strikes against strategic facilities in neighbouring countries.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that Iranian officials have issued warnings both publicly and during private discussions, threatening to escalate military operations throughout the region if Washington launches further attacks.
According to the newspaper, Tehran’s warnings form part of a broader effort to deter the United States from undertaking new military action against the Islamic Republic.
The preparations include reinforcing critical military and nuclear facilities, strengthening border areas and implementing additional defensive measures visible in recent satellite imagery.
Iran Strengthens Military Defences and Prepares Civilians for War
Iranian authorities have reportedly undertaken extensive preparations for another possible round of fighting, combining military fortifications with efforts to prepare the population for a renewed confrontation.
Satellite imagery cited by The Wall Street Journal reveals new defensive measures around key installations, including nuclear facilities and strategically important border areas.
At the same time, the Iranian government has introduced unusual initiatives intended to familiarise civilians with the possibility of another war.
These measures reportedly include deploying paramilitary personnel to kindergartens to read war stories to young children, announcing training courses that teach civilians how to fire anti-aircraft missiles and organising large public rallies.
According to experts cited by the newspaper, Tehran’s increasingly confrontational rhetoric serves more than a military purpose.
Some analysts believe the government’s warnings are also intended to divert public attention from Iran’s worsening economic difficulties, which have been intensified by American sanctions.
The newspaper presented these domestic pressures as another dimension of Tehran’s military and political calculations as tensions with Washington continue.
Tehran Threatens Ground Incursions and Strikes Against Gulf Infrastructure
Iranian officials have reportedly warned that the country’s response to another American attack may extend beyond direct strikes against US forces.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Iranian representatives have raised the possibility of launching ground incursions into neighbouring countries as part of a wider military escalation.
Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s national security council, warned that Tehran could target the United Arab Emirates, as well as server farms and underwater internet cables across the region.
His remarks suggested that critical technological infrastructure could become part of Iran’s retaliatory strategy in the event of another confrontation.
The warnings have also been conveyed to Arab officials, with Tehran reportedly cautioning that strategic facilities in their countries could be targeted.
Among the potential targets mentioned were Saudi Arabian oil installations, raising the prospect that a renewed US-Iranian war could extend to vital energy infrastructure elsewhere in the Gulf.
Houthi Attack on Riyadh Airport Adds to Regional Tensions
The Iranian warnings come alongside military activity by Houthi rebels in Yemen.
According to the newspaper, Houthi forces attacked Riyadh airport over the previous weekend, killing at least 13 people.
The reported attack comes as Tehran warns that another confrontation with Washington could extend beyond Iranian territory and involve strategic targets across the Middle East.
The combination of Iranian threats and military activity elsewhere in the region has added another dimension to concerns over the geographical scope of any renewed confrontation.
US Deploys Third Aircraft Carrier Strike Group as Pentagon Prepares War Options
While Iran strengthens its defences and issues warnings of regional retaliation, the United States is also preparing for the possibility of renewed combat operations in the Middle East.
According to The Wall Street Journal, a third American aircraft carrier strike group is heading towards the region as the US military expands its preparations.
The Pentagon is also considering deploying additional air defence equipment and ammunition to American military bases throughout the Middle East.
These potential reinforcements would increase the resources available to US forces in the event of another military confrontation.
American officials have indicated that the military is developing several options to respond to possible developments in the region.
However, President Donald Trump recently ruled out launching an attack before the US midterm elections scheduled for 3 November.
Despite that position, Trump has publicly expressed interest in targeting Iranian nuclear facilities.
The combination of continued American military preparations and the president’s stated interest in Iran’s nuclear infrastructure has left the possibility of future strikes under consideration, despite his remarks regarding the election timetable.
Iran Uses Ceasefire to Rebuild Missile and Drone Infrastructure
The Wall Street Journal also reported that Iran has used the ceasefire period to rehabilitate facilities dedicated to producing and supporting its missile and drone capabilities.
These reconstruction efforts have reportedly received praise from Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
The rebuilding programme forms part of broader Iranian efforts to restore military capabilities and strengthen infrastructure considered vulnerable to further attacks.
Recent satellite images reportedly show that Iran has constructed new passive defensive fortifications around the Natanz nuclear facilities over the past month.
The measures include earth embankments designed to improve protection around sensitive installations.
Unlike active air defence systems, these physical barriers are intended to strengthen the facilities themselves against potential military threats.
The construction work provides visible evidence of Tehran’s efforts to prepare key installations for another round of attacks.
Military Preparations Serve Both Deterrence and War Planning
Behnam Ben Taleblu, director of the Iran programme at the Washington-based Foundation for Defence of Democracies, described Iran’s preparations as evidence that the country is actively positioning itself for another military confrontation.
“The Islamic Republic, in both word and deed, is actively preparing for the next war,” he said.
“In this sense, the regime’s actions constitute both deterrence and war planning.”
His assessment reflects the dual purpose of Tehran’s current strategy: to discourage American military intervention through warnings of widespread retaliation while strengthening the country’s ability to withstand and respond to another conflict.
