An Israeli official has said that a new round of attacks against Iran is, in his assessment, “only a matter of time”, amid claims that Tehran is accelerating efforts to reactivate its nuclear programme and reinforce sites linked to it.
According to reports carried by Israel’s Channel 14, the official said Israel had recently detected efforts to relocate and reinforce parts of Iran’s nuclear programme at Pickaxe Mountain, near the Natanz nuclear facility.
The official said Israel was preparing both defensively and offensively for the possibility of renewed confrontation with Iran, as well as escalation on other fronts.
He added that Israeli forces would again target Iranian nuclear facilities and other related sites if Tehran crossed what Israel considers a “red line”, whether in coordination with the United States or acting independently.
The official also said the Israeli side sees no genuine prospect of an agreement being reached between the United States and Iran, despite continuing contacts and mediation efforts.
He attributed this assessment to what he described as Iranian delaying tactics and Tehran’s calculations regarding possible political developments in both the United States and Israel.
