Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters warned the United States and regional countries on Sunday against any miscalculation involving action against Iran, saying any attack would trigger strikes on US positions and interests across the region.
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency quoted Khatam al-Anbiya, the unified command headquarters of the Iranian armed forces, as saying in a statement: “If you make a mistake, you will become the target of painful attacks.”
The statement added: “We warn that if America makes any mistake against Islamic Iran, all of its deployment centres and interests in the region will, without any restrictions or considerations, become targets of continuous, effective and painful attacks.”
It stressed that Washington could no longer expect “restraint or patience from Iran’s powerful armed forces”.
Iran also claimed that it had received information indicating that the United States, with support from some regional countries, was preparing to resume operations against Iran, according to Iran’s central military command.
In a statement issued on Sunday and carried by Tasnim, the Iranian military command said any US attack would lead to sustained strikes against American bases and interests across the region. It also warned that regional countries supporting what it described as “US aggression” against Iran would be considered parties to the conflict.
The warnings come as the United States has not carried out strikes against Iran for approximately two weeks.
The US military had previously announced that it destroyed five Iranian oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman on 8 September, saying the action came in response to Iranian attempts to launch missile attacks against a US Navy vessel.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, meanwhile, said it had launched ballistic missiles at a US base in Jordan.
Iranian Commander Invokes Saddam Hussein’s Fate
Alongside the military warnings, a senior Iranian commander on Sunday threatened US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with the fate of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein.
Iran’s official IRNA news agency quoted Ramazan Sharif, an adviser to the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, as telling a public gathering in Tehran that “the fate that befell Saddam and the Ba’ath Party will inevitably await both Trump and Netanyahu and their supporters”.
Sharif added that “the Americans and Israelis launched their wars based on miscalculations, refusing to acknowledge historical realities”.
The statements come amid an absence of indications that negotiations between the United States and Iran are set to resume.
