US President Donald Trump said Washington is holding talks with Iran, adding that the outcome remains uncertain.
“We are talking to the Iranians, and we will see what happens,” Trump said.
He claimed the United States had been preparing to launch its largest attack since the Second World War, but that Iranian officials requested negotiations.
Trump also spoke of the US military carrying out “powerful strikes” against Iran, insisting that Tehran could not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. However, he said his preferred outcome was to reach an agreement with Iran.
Iran and Oman Discuss Strait of Hormuz Shipping Route
Earlier on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Iran and Oman had agreed on the geographical coordinates of a navigational route through the Strait of Hormuz.
Baghaei said the two countries were finalising a joint announcement on the matter, provided that no third parties intervened.
He added that an agreement between Iran and Oman would not, by itself, guarantee security in the strategically important waterway.
