A senior White House official has confirmed that Israel is a party to the two week ceasefire announced by Donald Trump, indicating that the agreement extends beyond a bilateral arrangement between Washington and Tehran. According to the official, Israel has also agreed to suspend its aerial campaign while negotiations remain ongoing.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated earlier that Iran, the United States, and their respective allies had agreed to an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire across all fronts. He indicated that the agreement applies to multiple theatres, explicitly including Lebanon and other areas, and that it came into effect immediately.
Lebanon Included, Gaza Unclear
Israeli outlet Ynet, citing senior Israeli security sources, reported that the two week ceasefire includes a halt in hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. The report stated that both sides would cease fire under the agreement, with the Lebanese front formally included as part of the broader arrangement.
The same sources indicated that the ceasefire is tied to wider regional understandings, including Iran’s commitment to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This positions Lebanon as a confirmed component of the ceasefire framework.
However, no explicit confirmation was provided regarding Gaza within the reported terms. Despite references to a ceasefire “everywhere,” the available details focus primarily on Lebanon, leaving the situation in Gaza without clear operational inclusion.
Trump’s Conditions and Strategic Framing
Donald Trump confirmed that the ceasefire involves a mutual halt to military strikes for a period of two weeks. He stated that the temporary pause is designed to allow both sides to finalise a broader agreement, noting that most previous points of contention between the United States and Iran have already been resolved.
He emphasised that the ceasefire is conditional on Iran agreeing to the full, immediate, and secure reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump added that significant progress has been made towards a long term settlement, describing the negotiations as nearing a final resolution.
Towards a Broader Regional Settlement
Trump claimed that the United States has achieved and surpassed its military objectives in the confrontation with Iran, framing the current phase as a transition from military engagement to diplomatic closure. He confirmed that Washington has received Iran’s proposed 10 point framework and considers it a viable basis for resolving longstanding disputes.
He stated that the two week window is expected to allow for the completion of a final agreement, positioning the talks as a decisive moment in addressing what he described as a prolonged regional crisis.
Trump concluded by asserting that he is representing both US interests and those of the wider Middle East throughout the negotiation process.
