The British newspaper The Telegraph revealed on Saturday that Prime Minister Keir Starmer may send thousands of interceptor drones to the Middle East.
According to the newspaper, military officials are studying whether the “Octopus” interceptor drone system, manufactured in the United Kingdom and used by Ukraine against Russia, could also be deployed to strengthen British defences against Iranian Shahed drones.
Earlier, French Defence Minister Catherine Vautrin stated that Paris has no plans to send naval ships to the Strait of Hormuz.
Vautrin said during an interview with France24 that France is not participating in the war in the Middle East.
She added that “at this stage, there is no question of sending any ships to the Strait of Hormuz.”
When asked about the objectives of the United States and Israel in the conflict, Vautrin said the situation remains uncertain.
She stated: “We do not know what the final outcome will be,” referring to the ultimate objective pursued by Washington and Tel Aviv.
She also questioned whether the allies share the same final goals.
Vautrin explained that two states have entered the war, and it remains unclear whether they have exactly the same intentions, adding: “If the Americans stop, will the Israelis stop at the same time? That is a question we still have.”
Echoing the remarks of President Emmanuel Macron, Vautrin said that France’s priority remains diplomacy.
She concluded: “Our thinking has been that this is a diplomatic mission,” stressing that “France is not participating in this war.”
