Al Jannah is the home we strive toward. It is what our souls yearn for, the love for which nothing in this world can compare, the joy too vast for the earth to contain, the faces of the righteous whose loss we suffered through separation or death. It is the abode where noble loved ones reunite, the dwelling place of the righteous and the penitent, and the place where one meets the Prophets and Messengers.
It is the radiant fulfilment of the beautiful promises from the Most Merciful Lord, the end of sorrow, distress, and depression, the farewell to suffering and deprivation, the end of hunger, poverty, need, and want, and the end of fear from oppressors, tyrants, hypocrites, and deceivers. In Al Jannah there is no poverty, no need, no weakness, no fear, no suppression. It is absolute security: no fear of the unknown, or injustice, or a sinful thug, or a bloodthirsty terrorist, or an immoral wrongdoer, or a wicked neighbour. In Paradise (Al Jannah), there is no sickness, no boredom, no fatigue, no despair, no hopelessness, no fear of the future.
Al Jannah is the meeting place of righteous loved ones, family, and offspring, where there is no separation. There, you will meet all your righteous ancestors and your worshipping descendants.
Imagine with me, dear reader: in Al Jannah, if you wish to sit with the Messenger of Allah Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, you will meet him with ease. He will welcome you with his beautiful smile. You will sit with him, speak to him, and he will speak to you. You will tell him how much you love him, and he will say to you, “I love you.” You may tell him how often you sent prayers upon him, and he will inform you that they reached him. You may tell him that you visited him, sought his supplication, complained to him, and sought his intercession, and he will say to you, “I love you.” You will tell him how often you dreamt of him, and he will say, “I love you.” You will say to him whatever you wish, and he will say to you whatever brings happiness to your heart.
And in it you may meet all the Prophets, peace be upon them. You will rejoice in meeting the Prophet of Allah, Adam, who will narrate to you the story of his descent with Hawwa’ from Al Jannah. You will meet Noah, who will recount his patience in calling his people for 950 years and their denial of his message, as well as the story of the Ark. You will rejoice in meeting the father of the Prophets, Ibrahim, whom the Qur’an praised by saying: “Indeed, Ibrahim was a nation.”
You will rejoice in meeting Yusuf, the symbol of excellence, and Musa ibn Imran, who will tell you how the Nile became a cradle for him, how the sea parted for him, how he confronted Pharaoh and endured his harm, and how he persevered with the Children of Israel until he established for them a state. You will meet our master Sulayman, who will tell you how the throne of Bilqis was brought to him. You will meet the Prophet of Allah, Dawud and delight in the beauty of his voice and the sweetness of his words as he tells you how the birds sang from the beauty of his recitation. You will meet Isa al-Masih ibn Maryam, the Prophet, Messenger, and great teacher, and rejoice in his gentleness, forbearance, wisdom, beauty, noble speech, and kind smile.
You will also see in it the righteous Imams: the disciples of the Messengers and the Companions of the Prophet. You will rejoice in meeting Abu Bakr and the stories of his truthfulness, patience, and firmness; Umar ibn al-Khattab and the accounts of his justice, asceticism, and remarkable system of social and political justice; Uthman Dhu al-Nurayn, the man of modesty and great generosity; Ali ibn Abi Talib, the scholar, ascetic, and noble warrior; and Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz, the symbol of purity, asceticism, and justice, of whom women have never borne a ruler like him since.
And imagine with me, dear female reader, that if you wished to speak to the Mother of the Believers, Aisha and ask her about her love for the Prophet, what would she tell you? What story would she share with you? What moments would she recount, and how would you laugh together?
