In a provocative and politically charged statement, Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Yehiel Leiter, suggested that Syria and Lebanon may join the so-called Abraham Accords with Israel before Saudi Arabia does — a claim seen by many as part of a broader Zionist strategy to pressure and fragment resistance fronts in the region.
Leiter’s remarks were made during an interview with PragerU, a controversial media platform known for its pro-Israel narratives, and later republished by the Jerusalem Post.
“There is currently nothing preventing us from moving toward a settlement with Syria and Lebanon,” said Leiter.“We’ve radically changed the model there. I’m very optimistic that an Abraham Accord with Syria and Lebanon is possible — perhaps even before Saudi Arabia.”
Saudi Arabia & the Trump Factor
Leiter went on to say that Saudi Arabia is actively considering normalisation and may have already reached a deal if former U.S. President Donald Trump had remained in office past 2020.
“Saudi Arabia wasn’t far off in 2019,” he claimed. “Had Trump stayed in office in 2020, we might have achieved full normalisation with the Kingdom.”
He acknowledged that while the path to normalisation with Saudi Arabia remains open, the war on Gaza has complicated matters.
On Lebanon: From Resistance to Capitulation?
When questioned about Lebanon’s potential normalisation, Leiter boldly claimed:
“Lebanon has a chance to emerge from its status as a failed state and reassert itself as a civil society.”
Such a statement blatantly ignores the sovereignty of the Lebanese people and their ongoing support for resistance, particularly in light of the role played by Hezbollah in defending Lebanon from Israeli incursions.
Leiter also tied a possible ceasefire with Lebanon to the disarmament of Hezbollah — a core demand of the Zionist regime.
“To the extent that Hezbollah is disarmed, we are headed toward settlement and peace,” he said.“We’ve already withdrawn our forces. We have five installations on the border, and we’ll withdraw them as well.”
On Syria: Sanctions & Sectarian Manipulation
Leiter criticised the U.S. for easing sanctions on Syria, saying Washington should have shown more hesitation and waited to assess Damascus’ actions.
He framed this within a sectarian lens, calling on the U.S. to “protect minorities” in Syria, particularly the Druze and Alawites — a narrative often exploited to stir internal division and justify foreign interference.
On Qatar: A Clear Provocation
In his closing remarks, Leiter expressed deep discomfort with Qatar, accusing it of being an unreliable actor.
“I’m more uncomfortable with Qatar than anyone else,” he said,attacking those in Western media who defend Doha by claiming it is a U.S. ally.“They have an agenda — and it’s not a pro-Western one,” he alleged.
