In a scene that captures the daily tragedy endured by Gaza, Al Jazeera obtained exclusive footage retrieved from a camera belonging to an Israeli soldier, discovered after fierce clashes in Al-Shuja’iyya neighbourhood, east of Gaza City, in July.
The images extracted from the camera unveiled a hidden side of the occupation’s crimes, showing brutal raids and abuse against the residents of Al-Shuja’iyya — a blatant violation of all humanitarian laws and norms.
Palestinian and Arab social media users viewed the footage as a stark reminder of the systematic killing and destruction that Gaza’s people have endured amid an ongoing war that has lasted for more than 18 months.
Activist Tamer commented on the platform “X,” stating that such scenes have become tragically familiar over the past months, noting that Israeli soldiers often share even more horrific footage through their Instagram accounts without fear of accountability or consequence.
He highlighted images of home invasions, random shootings, looting and destruction of personal belongings, the kidnapping of civilians to be used as human shields, and the deliberate burning of schools, shelters, and hospitals. Tamer stressed that the crimes not captured by cameras far outnumber those shown to the world — a world that continues to fail the victims and shield the perpetrators.

Tamer underscored the bitter reality: for many Israeli soldiers, these acts are not a source of shame but of pride, proudly shared with the full knowledge that they live in a world that oppresses the oppressed and protects the aggressors.
Meanwhile, activist Izzat Abu Samra drew attention to the camera’s fall during the chaos, documenting a soldier smashing down the door of a destroyed home, kicking a wounded man on the ground, before being struck down by Palestinian gunfire.
“Was the camera struck by random shelling?” Abu Samra asked. “Or did the fleeing soldiers drop it in panic?” He asserted that the fallen camera was not just a lens, but a witness that spoke undeniable truth.
He added that the footage not only documented the soldiers’ flight but also exposed their crimes — the destruction of homes, the dismemberment of bodies, and the burying of children beneath the rubble. “It was a camera that fell by accident,” Abu Samra wrote, “but it spoke the truth.”
Many social media users expressed outrage, questioning: “If images of charred children and women in tents cannot awaken this sleeping Ummah, then what can?”
One commenter wrote: “Criminals, terrorists, mercenaries, bandits — every word of criminality applies to this entity and its backers.”
Others pointed out that what the images showed is but a small glimpse compared to the reality on the ground, insisting that the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces in Gaza surpass even the worst atrocities of the Nazis.
Supported by unconditional American backing, Israel has been committing a genocide in Gaza since October 7, 2023 — a campaign that has left over 168,000 Palestinians killed or wounded, the majority of whom are women and children, along with more than 11,000 reported missing.
