On Wednesday, several individuals described as “peace advocates” issued a series of warnings that the newly elected Republican President, Donald Trump, might lift the barriers imposed by the Democrats on the State of Israel, unleashing the main ally to take over Palestine.
Lindsey German, a member of the “Stop the War” coalition based in London, stated, “Trump’s racism, Islamophobia, and bigotry, coupled with his close relationship with Benjamin Netanyahu, might enable Israel to pursue its desire to fully control Gaza and the West Bank.”
German added in a statement: “We are facing an extremely dangerous situation around the world, with an increasing arms race. We in the anti-war movement must double our efforts to end the genocide and wars in the Middle East.”
He continued, “We also need peace in Ukraine, for the West to stop arming Kyiv, and to put an end to the escalation of militarization and the conflict directed against China in the Pacific.”
In turn, Brett Wilkins, a member of the same coalition, wrote in an article published on several websites in the United States: “Israel has gradually and systematically seized more Palestinian land since its illegal occupation of Gaza and the West Bank, including Jerusalem in 1967.”
He went on to say, “The extreme right-wing in Israel aims to expand Israeli territories to include what is called ‘Greater Israel,’ based on the Biblical borders that extended from Africa to Turkey and to Mesopotamia.”
Wilkins also noted in the article that the Prime Minister of the Israeli occupation has “repeatedly displayed maps showing the Middle East without Palestine, depicting all its territories as part of Israel.”
While some Israelis, including several officials like the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, and the Minister of Finance, Bezalel Smotrich, celebrated Trump’s victory on Wednesday, “peace advocates” confirmed that “they are openly planning to steal more land, including the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians during the current war on Gaza; through home demolitions and forced displacement in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and the expansion of settlements that are illegal under international law.”
In related context, the American ambassador to the State of Israel during Trump’s first term, David Friedman, recently released a book advocating for “Israel’s annexation of all of Palestine, a policy based on prophecies and Biblical values.”
Through the same book, Friedman envisions a situation in Palestine akin to the United States’ conquest and governance of Puerto Rico, where Palestinians do not have voting rights but are granted limited autonomy as long as they abide by Israeli law.
Furthermore, during Trump’s first term, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo ended a 30-year U.S. foreign policy stance that considered Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank inconsistent with international law.
In February, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken reversed the so-called “Pompeo Doctrine,” announcing that “Israeli settlements are in violation of international law.” Meanwhile, last week, several officials from the United Nations Human Rights Commission said that Israeli forces are “creating a catastrophic situation in northern Gaza.”
