US Senator Lindsey Graham says for “Israel” to win its “existential” war in Gaza, it needs to do whatever it takes, like when the US was “justified” to ignore civilian casualties after dropping the nuclear bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during WWII.
During an interview with NBC News on Sunday, Graham said that the Palestinian Resistance is to blame for the mass civilian casualties – which have now exceeded 35,000 martyrs – and called on the occupation to continue until a final victory is achieved, no matter what it takes.
“When we were faced with destruction as a nation after Pearl Harbor, fighting the Germans and the Japanese, we decided to end the war by bombing Hiroshima, Nagasaki, with nuclear weapons,” Graham stated, adding, “So, Israel, do whatever you have to do to survive as a Jewish state. Whatever you have to do.”
Even though Graham did not call right out for using actual nuclear weapons in Gaza, his statement echoes the same controversial comparison he himself made during a subcommittee hearing earlier this week, in which he resembled the war on Gaza as “Hiroshima and Nagasaki on steroids.”
In light of the Biden administration’s temporary hold on weapon shipments to “Israel”, Graham expressed, “Give Israel the bombs they need to end the war they can’t afford to lose, and work with them to minimize casualties.”
‘No limits’ on casualties
This is not Graham’s first instance of comparing Gaza to Hiroshima. Back in October when Al-Aqsa Flood first launched, after being asked about the acceptable number of civilian casualties in Gaza by Abby D. Phillip on CNN’s NewsNight, he responded by saying “no” and drawing parallels with World War II.
In a post on X, Phillip said, “I asked @LindseyGrahamSC if there’s a limit to the number of civilian casualties that the US would accept in Gaza?,” to which he answered that just as there were no limits to what the United States was willing to do to prevent Japan and Germany from conquering the world after World War II, there should be no limits to what “Israel could do to defend itself.”
After beating around the bush to justify his flagrant answer, Graham ended with, “The answer is no, there is no limit.”
Lindsey Graham has a long history of warmongering. In May last year, commenting on the war in Ukraine, Graham said killing Russians is the “best money ever spent” and in December, he encouraged to blow Iran off the map.
It’s worth noting that Graham is not the only US official that has likened Gaza to Hiroshima. Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Michigan) stated at a town hall last month that Gaza should be handled “like Nagasaki and Hiroshima.”
He continued that the US “shouldn’t be spending a dime on humanitarian aid” delivery to Gaza, as seen in a video posted on social media, “It should be like Nagasaki and Hiroshima — get it over quick.”
