NBC News reported, citing U.S. officials, that President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of deploying thousands of troops to Iran.
The officials added that several options are under review, including the deployment of forces to Iranian ports or islands to limit threats to shipping.
They explained that other options include seizing highly enriched uranium or Iranian oil facilities.
Meanwhile, CNN reported that thousands of U.S. Marines and sailors are being moved to the Middle East as the war with Iran approaches its fourth week. The deployment timeline of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group has been altered and accelerated, and they are now expected to head to the Middle East.
One official stated that it remains unclear whether the amphibious ready group and Marine unit will be deployed in full or if only certain elements will be sent.
The official added that the group was originally scheduled to deploy to the Indo Pacific region.
This deployment, first reported by Newsmax, comes as a second Marine expeditionary unit, the 31st, along with the Tripoli Amphibious Ready Group, has already been deployed in the region.
